How Co-Working Can Actually Stunt the Growth of Your Business

How Co-Working Can Actually Stunt the Growth of Your Business Your success does not hinge upon joining a "community" of other entrepreneurs, in fact it can hurt your growth.

Proximity is not powerful when you associate with the wrong people.

This brings up an important fact about "coworking."

First, let's define coworking.

Coworking is a style of work that involves a shared working environment, often an office, and independent activity. Unlike in a typical office environment, those coworking are usually not employed by the same organization.

Typically it is attractive to work-at-home professionals, independent contractors, or people who travel frequently who end up working in relative isolation.

Coworking offers a solution to the problem of isolation that many freelancers experience while working at home, while at the same time letting them escape the distractions of home.

Traditionally, coworking spaces let pretty much anyone with a heartbeat and a credit card to work in their space. The only barrier to entry is a credit card.

So why would anyone looking to achieve success surround themselves with average by working a coworking space?

The true power of working and networking with others is when you are surrounding yourself with people that are better than you. Not worse or average. If you don't want to be average, then don't hang out with average.

"Your success as an entrepreneur does not come from simply renting a desk or an office," explained Brock Predovich, co-founder of IGNITRR a co-working space in Denver, Colorado that incorporates backoffice support.

The prestige you feel after putting your name on the door of your office or after you sit down at your desk in a co-working space will soon wear off when your realize there's still work to be done, you need to market better, sell more and scale your business but unfortunately your new office digs didn't fix that.

You still need back office tools and access to facilities that enable you to market better, sell better and scale your business.

Lastly, co-working doesn't solve one basic necessity of every entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs need mentorship and a program that supports their development as a success business owner.

Dean Haritos, also a co-founder of IGNITRR explained, "If you want to become a successful entrepreneur you need to learn from and be inspired by other successful entrepreneurs that have been there before and can help guide you in avoiding pitfalls and mistakes."

Success comes from having the right people around you, the right tools and in the right environment, not just being around other entrepreneurs.
