D.L. Hughley: Expelling SAE Members 'Doesn't Solve Anything' (VIDEO) The repercussions from a viral clip earlier this week showing a racially offensive chant by the University of Oklahoma’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity members has included expulsion of two of the students involved, a cancelled concert and anger from university officials and people across the nation outraged that such offensive behavior still plagues society.
Despite the widespread backlash, comedian and political commentator D.L. Hughley believes ousting two members of the fraternity “doesn’t solve anything” in the university’s efforts to prevent a hostile environment on the college campus. The original “King of Comedy” recently spoke to TMZand shared his thoughts on the fraternity’s controversial chant.
“I think those boys didn’t learn that song at a frat house. I think if you wanna learn where those boys learned that song we shouldn’t tear up the frat house, we should see the house they were raised in," he said. “I think, ultimately, we shouldn’t be shocked at people…that fraternity is 159 years old. It started right after the civil war.”
“They are proud of the fact that most of the founding members fought for the south instead of the north…I certainly don’t want to say that everyone who sang that song is a racist, but look they didn’t learn that song during their first year in college.”
