NEW YORK (AP) — NEW YORK (AP) — Recently criticized New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH'-zee-oh) has arrived at the wake of a police officer shot to death with his partner in a brazen daytime ambush.

Police union officials have said de Blasio contributed to a climate of mistrust toward police amid protests over the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of white officers. A police union official said de Blasio had blood on his hands.

De Blasio has stood by police firmly since the Dec. 20 shooting, calling for a temporary halt to demonstrations and denouncing one that occurred Thursday as "divisive."

Hundreds of police officers, politicians and community members attended the remembrance Friday for Officer Rafael Ramos, whose funeral is Saturday. Funeral plans haven't been announced for Ramos' partner, Officer Wenjian Liu (loo).
